Beka Brakes, called simply 'Beka', is the defactor leader of the community of the Paradiso Tower in the Redlands. ]

Beka has a natural charisma that people are just drawn to. Much like the grandmother that she appears to be, she has seen a lot in her years - being born pre-Fall has given her a sense of what the world lost and what it doesn't need to rebuild.
She focuses on the Paradiso colony and tries to keep them together like a large family. Nearly every child there will call her 'Beka' or 'Nanna'.
Beka is also no fool. She is never without a pistol and often wears a hood up when she walks outside just in case a sniper has made their way into the area and wants to take her out. She's under no illusion that the others in the colony look to her for guidance. If she falls - she hopes that the lessons that she's taught will keep them going but there's always that feeling of doubt gnawing inside.
